Fundraising

We would like to appeal to the members of the public and their companies to support the Lions Club of Fish Hoek in our fund-raisers.

Every cent that is collected from the fund-raisers is used to assist in the many projects that the Lions club of Fish Hoek and Lions International are actively involved with in the Fish Hoek and surrounding community.

Our projects cover a variety of community needs, and it is only with your assistance that we can truly excel at our fund-raising and be able to grow existing projects and establish new ones to serve the community better.

If you would prefer to make a donation directly to the club, please email our club treasurer at treasurer@fishhoeklionsclub.org.za to arrange it.

Morning Market

The Lions Club of Fish Hoek will be hosting a Morning Market sale of useful second-hand items in good condition at the Fish Hoek Civic Centre on the 29th of August 2009 between 8:30am and 1pm.

The funds raised will be used to assist us to recover some of the expenses that are entailed from running an eye clinic for the needy, assisting with elder care in Fish Hoek, or assisting the community in the many other projects the Lions Club of Fish Hoek are involved in.

Why not come along on the day and browse the variety of bric-a-brac, potted plants, used clothing, children's' toys puzzles and books. There are even a few CD's for sale too. Buy the items you are interested or keep a note for further deliberation.

If you chose to make a note then perhaps you can visit our tea-room to assist you in making your purchase decision by having a cup of tea/coffee and sandwiches or some cake at a very reasonable cost.
Why not bring some friends to assist you, or meet them there, and enjoy your refreshment together.

Don't be too long with the tea as someone else might snap up your bargain.

If you would like to donate items for the Fish Hoek Lion Club Morning Market, or have any queries, please contact the the convenor below:

Blikkies

This is one of the tins with a Lions label wrapped around it that you see next to some shop-owners tills. These tins allow a shopper to post a few cents into this tin and contribute to the ongoing fund-raising Lions Club of Fish Hoek are involved in.

The Lions Club of Fish Hoek uses every cent it collects for the improvement of its community. Blikkies provide a handy way for all members of the public to assist our club in the many projects we are involved in. Should you wish to either have a free collection tin donated to you, or a full one collected, please contact the convenor at blikkies@fishhoeklionsclub.org.za

Booksales

The Lions Club of Fish Hoek previously held a second-hand book sale at Longbeach Mall. Unfortunately, due to a lack of new book stock being donated and the quality of the existing book stock as well as the extra-ordinary amount of time required to sort the book stock, this fund-raiser has been abandoned.

Christmas Cakes

Annually the Lions Club of Fish Hoek sells Christmas fruit cakes to aid their fund-raising efforts. The 1 kilogram cakes are expertly
manufactured by Albany Bakery and can make an excellent fruity base for your Christmas cake or can be enjoyed on their own. They are normally available from around October and they normally sell out just before Christmas each year.

The cakes are proving very popular and cost effective as our sales topped 800 cakes in 2008. This shows a 15% increase in cake sales from 2007! Keep an eye out for their arrival in your area and pick yours up as soon as possible. The cakes have an excellent shelf life and if they are not made up as a Christmas cake, are wonderful for afternoon tea, or as a daytime snack.

The Slangkop Biker's Rally

The planning for the 6th annual Slangkop Bikers Rally is well under way between the Lions Club of Fish Hoek and the Western Cape Chapter of The ULYSSES Motor Cycle Association. The plans ensure that bikers attending the rally have ample amounts of liquid merriment available, good music, food and plenty of biker camaraderie, as well as a place to sleep on Friday, before the next round of the rally takes place.

2010 rally dates for the Slangkop Bikers Rally above see the rally commencing at midday on Friday the 16th of April and closing down on the morning of Sunday the 18th April.

Entry forms are available here. (Page 1 / 2)

Read on to find out about acccomodation and general information

The history of Fish Hoek Lions and ULYSSES involvement in the rally:
The ULYSSES Motor Cycle Association was formed in December 1998 with the Western Cape Chapter being the first to get started. They are now the second largest Chapter in the country with a membership count in 2009 of approximately 154. Membership is restricted to the age of 40 and upwards, but motorcyclists of any age are welcome to join in on rides and functions. The Western Cape Chapter of ULYSSES have many charities that they assist and they are also endeavouring to change the public view on motorcycling, by example.

When the Lions Club of Fish Hoek Simonsbay approached Ulysses to join with them in organising and hosting a motorcycle rally in Cape Town they jumped at the opportunity as the funds raised could be of
assistance in each club's community projects, whilst also allowing them to do what they
loved to do most – ride motorcycles and have fun with people who enjoy doing the
same thing.
The involvement of members of both clubs, who start a full year in advance for planning the
rally, has laid the foundation for a very successful fund-raising event that started in 2005.
The rally that brings with it plenty of fun, good music, a chance to meet old friends and have a few dops, as well as providing the necessary funds both clubs need to further assist the needy intheir respective community projects.

The rally is open to all bikers to enjoy the camaraderie of an expanding biker fraternity.

NO car entrants will be allowed.

When the rally participants start arriving one of their first thoughts is about visiting the bar for a cold one and then pitching their tent. For the next two days its all hands on deck as members from both clubs work flat out to register rally participants, keep the liquid refreshments flowing, the music playing and also provide rally clothing or extra badges.

An enormous marquee houses the pub, the band and some tables and chairs. The surrounds house the “tent village”, the bikes, and various food and biker apparel stalls.
During the course of the rally there is non-stop drinking, eating and partying with live music
playing and the usual entertainment. The music is provided in the evenings and will cover bothFriday and Saturday nights. More details about the activities as they become available.

In 2010 the full rally fee of R170 needs to either be pre-paid, as in the case of pre-entries,
or paid on arrival at the rally gate.

The rally entrance fee includes a rally badge as well as a rally wristband.

Entries received before the rally entry form cut-off date(pre-entries) in early April will receive
a quicker entrance into the rally as no forms will need to be filled in. Just bring yourself along to the gate, identify yourself and receive your badge and wristband and you are on your way to enjoying the first cold one from the cash bar, and of course getting a better tent site.

Rally shirts will be on sale in the main tent at R90 (S/M/L) and R110 for larger sizes. Extra
badges will probably also be on sale.

All 2010 rally entries will qualify for entry into a lucky cash prize draw. Pre-entries received
before the entry form cut-off date will qualify for a BONUS entry into the lucky draw. The
winner of each prize must be present at the draw and claim his/her prize.
The cash prizes are:
  • 1st = R 15 000-00
  • 2nd = R 3 000-00
  • 3rd = R 2 000-00
If you do not have your own tent, there is limited pre-fabricated accommodation available that is a short distance from the main tent, at very reasonable rates. If you would like to reserve your spot, please use the contact details below for accommodation.

There are also full time medical treatment facilities available at the rally.
Come along with your biking friends whether you ride a motorcycle or a scooter, mix with
fellow biker guys and gals and enjoy the rally.

Only after the rally is there time for the event organisers and helpers to rest their sore bones and tired muscles and of course catch-up with family and pets, before starting the plans for the next Slangkop Bikers' Rally.

We are anticipating over 1000 bikers in 2010 so come along for a jol and have a dop with a few of your mates over the weekend.
Why not come along and experience the Rally?

Trophy of Light Golf day

The Trophy of Light Golf day was established 20 yrs ago by the Lions Club of
Constantia Valley in association with Mr Raymond Ackerman. Due to
declining membership the Lions Club of Constatia Valley had to close, and
the Lions Club of Fish Hoek were privileged and have continued this
successful, well attended, golf day since 2008.

The on-going success of this long running, and prestigious Golf Day, has
seen in excess of 1 Million Rand over the years, and the Lions Club of Fish
Hoek is pleased to be able to continue hosting this tradition on behalf of
Mr. Raymond Ackerman.

The Trophy of Light Golf day is held at the Clovelly Golf Club and will be held
on the 19th of September 2010 starting at 11h00. The number of players on
the day is limited to 132 official handicapped players Men: 24 Women: 30. 4-
ball alliance (Stableford) 2 scores to count.

To support this prestigious, limited participation event, we ask you to
purchase a 4-ball alliance that will automatically gain your own 4-ball alliance
participation in the event that is limited to only 132 players. This will allow four
players of your company to enjoy a pleasurable day of golf and also allow the
company to erect company advertising for the golf day.

Cost Players
R5000 4-ball alliance
R4000 3 players
R3000 2 players

Your company can also purchase one of the 16 remaining holes to advertise
your company. To take advantage of this please use the the event convenor
contact details at the base of this article.

There will be a ladies and gents 'Nearest the Pin' betting hole incorporated
into the days' play as well as R1000's worth of prizes up for grabs including 5
4-ball prizes, 6 raffle prizes as well as an auction of a golfing weekend in
Heroldts Bay, a David Frost Magnum wine and more.

A light dinner will follow the days' play and this is included in the cost of the
day All the funds raised will be used by the Lions Club of Fish Hoek, to cover the
expenses in operating and affecting equipment repairs at their own Eye Clinic based
at the False Bay Hospital. The clinic is used to provide optometric
screening and the provision of glasses for the poorest of the poor and needy
patients. The 2009 event will hopefully assist the Lions Club of Fish Hoek to
purchase a Retinal Camera. This mobile camera is used for imaging eyes in
diabetic patients and identifying glaucoma and Macular degeneration. It is
also used for the early detection of general deterioration of the eyes.

The Lions Club of Fish Hoek has raised approximately half of the money
required for the retinal camera, but with an approximate purchase price of
over R160 000, we would welcome your assistance in allowing The Lions
Club of Fish Hoek to continue being Knights of the Blind, in our fight against
preventable blindness.

To book your days play, contact the Clovelly Country Club at (021) 784-2111
from the 21st of September. If you have any other query about the event,
please contact the event convenor, Janice Salthouse, at (021) 782-3265 or
